Thousands of Royal Jubilee commemorative plaques have embarrassing typo and could be worth £291,000

There won’t be a shortage of Platinum Jubilee merchandise this year, but not everything will be as “pretty jubbly” as a bundle of memorabilia with a spectacular misprint.

The dinnerware set which includes a plate and cup is set to say: “To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee” the year the Queen turns 75 on the throne.

Instead, the text reads: “To commemorate the Platinum Jubbly.”

Now Karl Baxter, Managing Director of Wholesale Clearance UK, has 7,200 dinnerware sets he hopes to sell and is channeling the spirit of Only Fools and Horses’ Del Boy and his ‘lovely jubbly’ slogan.

Mr Baxter was approached by a Chinese manufacturing company to sell his stock of Jubilee memorabilia, after his partner in the UK decided not to take it due to a translation error.

He said: ‘There will be no shortage of royal memorabilia to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as retailers have a long history of selling memorabilia on royal occasions.

“In classic Del Boy style, we naturally stepped in to help move Platinum ‘Jubbly’ stock.

“Memorabilia from previous royal occasions are often sought after by collectors, as they are a great excuse to go out and buy a piece of history that will increase in value over time…

“Plus, what could be more unique than our limited edition misprinted tableware? This could be your chance to get your hands on a novelty keepsake for a fraction of the price!”

Wholesale Clearance sells bankrupt and liquidation stocks to the public. You can see the memory with the typo listed here.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will see a four-day public holiday from Thursday June 2 to Sunday June 5 and will feature a series of public events to mark the historic occasion.
