Kalamazoo Women’s March in memory of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg

KALAMAZOO, MI – Kalamazoo joins a national organization, the Women’s March, to honor the life and legacy of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The walk is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17 at Bronson Park. The walk will circle Bronson Park, head north on Park Street, then east on Michigan Avenue, then south on Rose Street, and west on South Street. The walk in downtown Kalamazoo is estimated to take 35-40 minutes.

After the walk, a tribute to Ginsburg is planned with a prayer to follow, led by Cantor Carl Ratner. There will also be speakers and live music.

Nationwide, marches are being held to protest President Donald Trump and the US Senate’s decision to fill the Ginsburg seat ahead of the next presidential election on November 3. Trump has announced that Judge Amy Coney Barrett is his candidate for the seat.

Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill have debated whether or not the president should make a nomination so close to an election. A similar debate took place in 2016 when the Republican-led Senate blocked the nomination of then-President Barack Obama.
