Let’s face it, Gulliver from Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a bit of a jerk. However, the whole ordeal in waking him up is getting a gift from him in return for his help. It sounds a little selfish, but it’s just a game.
The iconic seagull has been a part of every Animal Crossing title of all time. He serves the same purpose everywhere: to get players to help him, then give them rewards in return, like special furniture and artifacts from around the world.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Gulliver also has a lookalike (or maybe his brother) known as Gullivarrr. Unlike Gulliver, ship captain, Gullivarrr, as the name suggests, is a pirate. What an interesting situation for Lord Beckett-Jack Sparrow.

How to wake up Gulliver and help him in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Helping Gulliver in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will unlock the Nook Miles objective “Gulliver’s Works”, an obvious pun on Gulliver’s Travels. Interestingly, much like Gulliver from Jonathan Swift’s iconic book, players may randomly find Gulliver stranded on their shores unconscious.
To wake Gulliver up, players need to keep talking to him persistently. It is sure to wake up after a few attempts. When he wakes up, he will try to contact his teammates, only to realize that his communicator is missing some parts.
He will then turn to the player for help, and when done, he will grant him rewards. Now, finding the communicator parts is pretty easy, but players will need a shovel. Players should look for water jets on the beach, the kind that usually indicates the presence of Japanese clams.
After finding all of the Communicator’s parts, Gulliver will give the player gifts around the world, such as exotic furniture and headwear. These are all memories of his travels around the world.
After helping Gulliver 30 times, the player will receive the DIY recipe for a golden shovel.
