It was a big day for K-Pop fans who also love Mickey D. But it was also a big bust for a lot of them.
The eagerly awaited BTS Meal has arrived at McDonald’s restaurants on Wednesdays, with BTS-themed food containers and bags.
But judging by the number of fans on social media expressing their frustration, the big offer didn’t go as planned for everyone.
Many people on Twitter complained that their McDonald’s location did not have BTS meals at all or sold them the meals, but without the appropriate BTS labeled bags or containers.
Some fans tweeted that they were to “tinker” the packaging and include an image showing “BTS Meal” and other handwritten inscriptions on the containers.
Another wrote, “I only received the purple bag but what about the cups ??”
One user with the handle @BTS_Jenn_ (who describes herself as “36 years old mom, wife, BTS ARMY !!!”) posted side-by-side photos of how the meal is supposed to look and what she claims to have gotten (spoiler alert: they were … different.)
(It seems the lack of purple cups was a particular pain point.)
Many, many, many other social posts contained language that we cannot reprint here.
BTS’s shortage isn’t all that surprising considering how popular K-Pop memorabilia is in the aftermarket, but did fans really buy them so quickly?
McDonald’s and BTS were expected to be very successful in this merger. The channel is giving fans the opportunity to purchase limited edition BTS Meal-inspired merchandise – exclusive hoodie, bathrobe, socks, sandals and shirt – through the Weverse Shop app.
