Are you looking for a new multiroom speaker? This Audio Pro A15 review can help. Audio Pro is one of the best wireless speakers – they sound fantastic and are well suited to contemporary homes.
I’ve tested a few of their Wi-Fi connected devices in the past, including the Audio Pro C10 MKII add-on and the Audio Pro G10both of which proved to be winners, but both had to be plugged into a power source to work.
On the other hand, the Audio Pro A15 is a portable wireless speaker that you can carry between rooms or even in the garden. Connect it to your Audio Pro, Google or Apple multiroom system and play music throughout the house.
Unfortunately, there’s no built-in smart assistant, so if that’s what you’re looking for, take a look at the best smart speakers instead.
Audio Pro A15 review: price and features
Straight from the Audio Pro website, you can buy the Audio Pro A15 for $400 in the US or £350 in the UK. Take a look at the widgets on this page to find out where you can choose one.
The Audio Pro A15 is a portable multiroom speaker that can be used anywhere, even outdoors. You can connect to it in a number of ways, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. While there aren’t tons of features to speak of, it has handy preset buttons for recording your favorite audio content and you can also use it as an alarm clock via the Audio Pro smartphone app.
Audio Pro A15 review: design and configuration
You can always count on an Audio Pro speaker to look the part. Scandinavian in style, their appliances are perfect for a modern home. The Audio Pro A15 is proof of that, smart and sleek, it’s covered in a sleek mesh fabric with a brushed metal panel on top. You can buy it in dark gray or light gray, which means it should suit most decors.
A ridged plastic base supports it and there’s a handle on the back to carry it around which is a good job as it’s quite a heavy device measuring 206 x 286 x 137mm and weighing 3.4kg. It’s a portable speaker, but it’s not one you’ll take with you.
If you use it outdoors it has IPX2 water resistance so it will survive light splashes of rain but I wouldn’t let it get too wet as it might not be able to handle it .
To control both the speaker and your music, there are a number of buttons on the top, including a large volume button in the middle. On top of that there are buttons to turn it on, pause or play the music, skip back or forward through tracks and there are six preset buttons giving you quick access to your favorite playlists , Internet radio stations or other audio content.
It’s very easy to save content to the preset buttons, just hold one for about 3 seconds until you hear a sound.
There are several ways to connect your devices to the speaker, the main ones being Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The Audio Pro A15 works with your other Audio Pro multiroom devices, and it’s also compatible with Google and Apple Home . For devices that don’t have wireless connectivity, you’ll be able to connect to it using a 3.5mm audio cable. And if you wanted to plug in an extra subwoofer, there’s an output for that too.
Setting up the device with your multiroom system is very simple – just open the Audio Pro Control app, Google Home app or Apple Home app and choose to add a new device, then follow the on-screen instructions. It took me about 3 minutes to get up and run.
Audio Pro A15 review: sound and battery
Consisting of a 10 W and 30 W amplifier with a 1 inch textile dome tweeter and a 4.5 inch woofer, the speaker system is very powerful. It supports Apple lossless, MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC codecs.
As we’ve come to expect from Pro Audio devices, you get powerful, clear and precise sound. The balance between frequencies is perfect, the lows are punchy while the highs are crisp and the mids are able to push through with enough force. There’s a lot of energy without drowning out any detail.
You can hear the depth behind every instrument and this speaker will fill the room quite easily. The only issue I have is that due to the design you get a different experience when standing behind it so it will be best placed against a wall.
To adjust the sound to suit you and your tastes, there are manual equalizer settings in the Audio Pro smartphone app. You will be able to increase or decrease the treble and bass. Too bad there are no more detailed settings but some are better than none!
The battery will last up to 11 hours of music playing at 50% volume, or 8 hours at full volume, which is a good amount for this type of device even though it barely compares to some of the best Bluetooth speakers. .
Audio Pro A15 review: verdict
I don’t have much to say about the Audio Pro A15, the only downside is that it’s a bit too big to carry around. But few multiroom speakers are portable in the first place, so it’s great to see such an impressive device packing a battery, too.
While it’s not feature-heavy, you get high-quality sound wherever you take it, and it’s super quick to access your favorite playlists with the preset buttons. You won’t need to fiddle with your phone, turn it on and start listening!
If you already use Audio Pro, Apple or Google multiroom systems at home, this will be a fantastic addition to your setup.
Audio Pro A15 review: think too
A speaker similar to the Audio Pro A15 is the Move Sonos – it’s a bit more expensive but it’s smaller than that and includes Apple AirPlay, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant so it’s a bit more versatile.
If you don’t need a portable multiroom speaker and don’t have a budget, the Naim Mu-so 2 is the best wireless speaker money can buy. It’s very expensive, but the sound will literally shake the walls and it supports just about every streaming service you could think of.
