13 Mother’s Day events near you

Celebrating Mother’s Day in style has posed a few challenges over the past 15 months.

But Chicago families are fortunate to have so many options available in town, in the suburbs, and even virtually. Enjoy cooking classes, crafts, or even tea with mom, grandma, your favorite aunt, or the other mother figures in your life. (We also recommend that you print out this list and circle your favorite ideas as a clue to enjoy with your kids!)

Note that some of these large events have capacity requirements, timed tickets, and early registration deadlines.

A mother’s day affair

May 1 and 2, 2021

Paint a prepared flowerpot to take home courtesy of AponteART and es Seniya from Studio 30. This event was created with the healing nature of working with the earth in mind and the importance of Mother Nature related to our appreciation of mothers all over the world.

Mother’s Day to go: serving tray

May 8, 2021

Teens can create a handmade wooden serving tray for Mother’s Day. For those who think mom would like to learn with them, a couples ticket allows two to take the class and create an item. Masks and advanced ticketing required.

Mother’s Day Cooking Class

  • Cost: $ 36, $ 30 residents in person; $ 12, $ 10 virtual for residents

Kids ages 4 and up can join moms, grandmothers, and mothers figures to bake tasty treats, read stories, and celebrate mom. The menu will include a heart-shaped pizza with assorted toppings. There are two options: in-person participants will receive an ingredient kit and recipe card; virtual participants will either receive an ingredient list or purchase an ingredient kit for $ 12.

Mommy & Me Kids Edition Day Party

Cost: $ 5 $ 30, registration required and limited

Children and their mother figures are invited to celebrate moms, grandmothers, godmothers, mothers-in-law and all moms with food, music, dancing, photo booths, raffles and Moreover. The environment is suitable for children and no adult drinks are served during the event. Masks are mandatory and tables will be spaced for social distancing.

Mother’s Day Tea Party

Moms and their budding chefs ages 2-8 will celebrate with a tea party made entirely from scratch. From strawberry shortbread cookies with hand whipped cream to freshly brewed sun tea, this fun Mother’s Day tradition is a way to say thank you for everything Moms do. Welcome tea party outfit. This course is designed to allow children and parents to cook together. Chef’s tables are spaced six feet apart and the use of masks is enforced.

For moms who missed tea in 2020, you can bring it back big with the Mothers Day High Tea Spiked with Blossoming Flower Green Tea (tea actually blooms into a flower because it flavor your tea! ), Finger sandwiches, delicious dessert bites and more! MOMosas and other specialty cocktails will be available for purchase, and live music from Dina Bach will set the scene for an elevated afternoon tea.

Mother’s Day Walk Home

Instead of a group walk, all of the houses featured in this annual tradition will be within walking distance. The houses will be viewable from the outside only and all house guests will receive an electronic version of the House Walk-By book (hardcover to follow). The book will contain maps and detailed information about houses, architecture and architects and families. House Walk-By, sponsored by the Evanston History Center, begins on Mother’s Day and continues throughout the year.

The science of kindness

Families are encouraged to bring their baby photos (even moms!) To learn more about the scientific significance of being so adorable when we (the animals) are young. All participants must wear masks and practice physical distancing.

Take the kids to Heritage Farm to create a simple handmade gift for mom under the picnic shelter, then spend time enjoying the grounds and nature trails. Register as a family and park at St. Matthew’s Church, following the signs to the entrance to the Heritage Farm.

Riders of all sizes and skill levels will gather for a short ride to Dairy Dream for a Mother’s Day treat. Bring helmets, masks, and money for ice cream.

Families may encounter the horned, barred, barns and howling eagle owl, as well as hawks with red shoulders and broad wings.
